TALKING ABOUT TEENAGE RELATIONSHIP ABUSE  AND  WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.


Teenage Relationship abuse is a form of Domestic Violence or Sexually abusive acts which  involve an underage child/teen who is unable to give informed consent or unable to resists. There is always a very big differences between the child and his/her abuser, which might involve many differences e.g in terms of power between the child and the abuser, on the basis of age, physical size, and the nature of the emotional relationship.


Abuse may take many forms and this vary in terms of the number of occurrences and the period of time in which the Abuse continues. The aggressive nature of the acts involved, and the use of force or coercion.

Sexual assault in teenage relationships is also a pattern of abusive behavior  that someone uses against a child. An  Abuse doesn’t have to be physical it can take many other forms too like: including threats, emotional abuse, insults, isolation from friends and family, and controlling what someone wears or who they socialize with. It can also include sex before they are ready and rape.

Evidence shows that coercive and controlling behavior is more likely to escalate into violence and then to become a pattern. 

Many Teenagers will always keep their abusive experience a secret, because most of them typically:

1.  have little knowledge or experience About relationships which might be has a result of lack of advice or participation in events or activities that deals with relationship.

2. can be under pressure from their peers/friends to act cool; and  have ‘romantic’ views of love.

3. Due to the Fear of the oppressive condition of the physical, mental, social or economic distress they might experience from their friends, society, abusers and even their parents too.

CONSEQUENCES OF TEENAGE RELATIONSHIP ABUSE

1. An act of aggression (as one against a person who is unable to resists) can have long-term effects on your teenager’s mental and physical health. 

2.   it may lead to a mental state characterized by a pessimistic sense of inadequacy and a despondent lack of activity.

3.  it may also leads to drug and alcohol problems, obesity and sexually risk-taking behavior.

4.  sexual abuse can lead to early or unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
